Unexpected life events can create immediate financial difficulties — particularly for accompanying persons living abroad.
The ACET-VEEDA Emergency Fund was established to provide members with financial support in situations such as the sudden death, divorce or separation of a partner, when urgent expenses arise and access to normal financial resources may be temporarily difficult.
Immediate support in an emergency
The Fund can provide a moderate, short-term financial loan to help bridge an urgent financial situation. In exceptional circumstances, a limited non-refundable contribution may also be granted.
The Fund is intended for situations where action is needed quickly and where financial assistance can help cover immediate needs.
Who can apply?
The Emergency Fund is available to ACET-VEEDA members experiencing an urgent financial emergency related to:
- the sudden death of a partner
- divorce or separation
- other exceptional circumstances resulting in acute financial hardship
Applications are handled confidentially and discreetly. A small Emergency Fund Committee reviews each request and decides by majority vote.
Loans can normally be granted for up to CHF 5,000, with repayment generally expected within one year. In exceptional situations, the Fund may also provide up to two non-refundable contributions of CHF 500 per calendar year.
The Fund depends on our community
The Emergency Fund exists because ACET-VEEDA members, partners and supporters have contributed to it.
Even a modest contribution helps maintain a financial safety net that can make a real difference when a member suddenly finds themselves in a difficult situation.
The Emergency Fund is still available today — and we want our members to know that this support exists.
If you are facing an unexpected financial emergency and believe you may need assistance, please contact us under president@acet-veeda.ch. Your request will be treated confidentially and handled as quickly as possible.
«My partner of many years died unexpectedly during our assignment on a post. We had a joint bank account with one of the major Swiss banks. I had full entitlement to the account and did all of our payments. We had a testament
stipulating all the details. I was told that our joint bank account would be frozen until the will was processed and inheritance claims were cleared. I was not prepared for this and a lot of extra costs had been accumulating due to my partner’s
death (funeral in Switzerland, last minute travel arrangements in Switzerland, hotels, rental car, day to day life, etc.). Whilst we had money in our accounts and we both had life insurance, I could not access the funds. I had no more access to our joint account, our credit cards had been stopped, and debit cards where blocked. The security of an emergency fund and a simple and quick payment would have helped me a lot.» - ACET-VEEDA Member
